Description
The Higher Education Regional Alliance (HERA) is a collaborative of 17 Southeastern Wisconsin public and private two- and four-year colleges and universities, and a network of partner organizations. This was my first project working with a real client, where my team collaborated with HERA to redesign their website and integrate an online AI course platform.
My primary focus was on developing the Course Catalog page, which dynamically displays all of HERA’s offered courses for members and stakeholders. We built the site using Bootstrap, dynamic blocks, and the MasterStudy CMS to deliver a clean, user-friendly experience.
During development, we uncovered a limitation in MasterStudy: it did not send notification emails to admins when users completed a course. Since this was essential for issuing completion badges, a key feature our client required, we contacted the CMS developers and discovered there were no existing hooks for course completion. To address this, I designed and implemented a custom cron event that periodically checks for course completion and issues admin notifications, ensuring HERA’s requirements were fully met.
